What a defensive masterpiece the Lakers put on from start to finish. They held Houston to 31 points in the first half and just 55 after three. LeBron James scored 18 of his 28 in the opening half and gave LA an offensive burst every time they needed it along with two big 3's to close out the first half. Rui Hachimura added 21 points on 5/7 shooting from deep on a night where it felt like he couldn't miss. Austin Reaves, on the second game back from injury chipped in what seemed like a quiet 15 point, no other Laker scored in double figures. Deandre Ayton had a quiet night offensively with 7 points on 2/6 shooting but chipped in 11 rebounds.

The story of the night however was the defense. From top the bottom the Lakers were scrapping all night on the defensive end. This led to continuous transition opportunities the Lakers took advantage of and outscored the Rockets 16-4 in transition. They also out rebounded Houston and had 9 blocks on the night. Sengun was kept in check all night scoring 17 points in the losing effort. JJ Redick earns his first playoff win and LeBron pads his legacy. More importantly LA advances in the playoffs for the first time since 2023, the prize is last season's champion the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tomorrow we may die, but for now we celebrate.
